RESEARCH
Fall
1993 - Spring 1994:
I conducted a final year undergraduate project entitled “
Design Aids for Shallow Foundation”. The aim of that project was
to develop simplified design charts that aid the designers when
designing a shallow foundation. From that project, A paper was
published in an international conference.
Fall
1994: I studied the modeling and patterns
of pollutant concentration in Muscat atmosphere due to automotive
emissions. Out of that research, I published two papers in two
international conferences.
Spring
1995: I started constructing Intensity
Duration Frequency Curves (IDF curves) for different watersheds in
the Sultanate of Oman. I had to halt this research because of the
Master degree scholarship I earned from my country. However a report
was written to the Sultan Qaboos University.
Fall
1996 – Spring 1997: My Master thesis was entitled
“Hydrologic and economic uncertainties and their incorporation
into the economic evaluation of flood risk management projects”.
This project was conducted under the supervision of Prof. Jery
Stedinger at Cornell University. Out of this research, I published
one paper in the Journal of Water Resources Planning and Management
(ASCE).
Fall
1997: I
supervised two final year projects of senior undergraduate students
at Sultan Qaboos University. The first project, conducted by one
student, attempts to study different rainfall-runoff models applied
to some watersheds in Muscat region. The second project, conducted
by two students, performs regional flood frequency analysis for the
whole Sultanate watersheds.
TRAINING
Winter
1992: I spent one month with Khymjy Ramdas,
a private computer company in Muscat. I gained some information
about both the software and hardware of the computer.
Summer
1992: I joined Yahya Costain, construction
company, for two month in one of its biggest projects in the
Sultanate of Oman. The project was the construction of the Ministry
of Housing, the biggest ministry in Oman.
Winter
1993: One month at Muscat Municipality.
The aim of the training was to have more exposure to the different
activities conducted by the municipality.
Summer
1993: I was granted a
fellowship by Kuwait Institute of Scientific Research (KISR) to
conduct a research at the institute for two months. I worked on a
project that studies the use of water proofing materials in Kuwait.
Spring
1995: After six months of starting my
academic job at SQU, I thought that it is important to develop
better skills in the practical side of Water Engineering. Therefore,
I had an excellent training in the Ministry of Water Resources, the
main agency that concerns about the water problems in Oman. I spent
two months at the Surface Water Division and another two months at
Groundwater Division.
