Variable Rock Wettability - Prof. Radke's Lab

Upon water-film rupture, an asphaltenic skin is deposited on the mineral surface. This deposit leads to wettability alteration, but only where the water films rupture Thus, mixed wettability initial develops at the crude oil/water interface
The solid surface is covered with the irreversibly adsorbed asphaltene patches. Also, an elastic interfacial skin forms at the oil/ water interface.

Here the advancing (and receding) contact angles on mica also grow with aging in parallel with the interfacial skin strength. Hence, the interfacial skin controls rock wettability
