Direct Percolation On the Images of Pore Space

Imbibition: Sw = 0.17

1. An image of the pore space is obtained from our depositional model, or FIB reconstruction, or micro-focused tomography at the ALS.

2. The pore space is characterized with our unique and robust maximum-inscribed-sphere algorithm.

3. Rock wettability is characterized with a distribution of receding and advancing contact angles

Imbibition: So = 0.83

4. An invasion percolation algorithm is used to fill the initially water-filled pore space with oil to a prescribed maximum capillary pressure.

5. In the mages on the left, invasion/ ordinary percolation governs the advancement of water menisci in imbibition.

6. The relative permeabilities are predicted with the lattice-Boltzmann method

7. The capillary pressures are obtained automatically
